The mission of The Princeton Closet has always been to collect the proceeds from sales and donate them back to local nonprofit organizations.

Our Story Begins…

Over fifty years ago the feet of migrant children were traced by teachers to find their correct shoe and boot sizes. Some church women were asked to help collect shoes for these needy children. This in turn led to Church Women United opening The Princeton Closet. Their hope was to provide reasonably priced shoes, clothing and other items for these migrant children and their families who were perhaps too proud to accept charity.

For several decades The Princeton Closet rented space

in the business districts on both North and South Main Street. The board of Church Women United purchased the former Sears’ building on North Main in 2003, the present site of The Princeton Closet. It was an agonizing leap of faith and a prayerfully considered decision. Thanks to those forward thinking ladies, today we have our own strategically located building close to Interstate 80.

Every penny that is earned at The Princeton Closet above and beyond expenses is given back to organizations in Bureau County. These organizations continue to give back to our community through their commitment to the people they serve.
